1Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan is ranked fourth in Bollywood in terms of earning money after Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan. The name of his father is Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who is former captain of Indian Cricket Team. In addition, his father hailed from the respected royal family of Pataudis and renowned film actress, Sharmila Tagore. Saif Ali Khan was born on 16 August 1970 in New Delhi Mansoor Ali Khan remained Nawab of Pataudi from the year 1952–71. After his death, a pagri ceremony was held in the village of Pataudi, Haryana, in order to crown Saif as the tenth Nawab of Pataudi.

After his graduation from abroad, Khan returned to India and started working in the advertising industry in New Delhi. He had two months of experience of working for the advertising industry when he first time modelled in a television commercial for Gwalior  Suiting, honouring the request of his friend. Afterwards, he agreed to work on a project directed by Anand Mahindroo, however, the project could not be materialized. With the aim of joining Hindi films, Saif shifted to Mumbai. He made his entry to the film industry by debuting in Yash Chopra’s film ‘Parampara’ in 1993. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a flop film. Aamir Khan also acted in this movie. His romantic roles in movies like ‘Yeh Dillagi’ (1995), ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ (1994) earmarked his success. The success of these two films paved the way for numerous other movies. In next a few years, based on his talent, Saif starred in many films including ‘Bambai Ka Babu’ (1996), ‘Tu Chor Main Sipahi’ (1996), ‘Hamesha’ (1997), ‘Udaan’ (1997), ‘Keemat’ (1998) ‘Humse Badhkar Kaun’ (1998), ‘Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan’ (1999), ‘Kachche Dhaage’ (1999), ‘Aarzoo’ (1999) and ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’ (1999).

Till the 1990s, Khan had a handsome number of movies to his name, but he was unable to get a role that could have made him a prominent star of the film industry as per his expectation. However, the commencement of the new centaury turned out to be a hallmark for his life. He exhibited the best performance of his career in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001) directed by Farhan Akhtar. The movie turned out to be a big success and proved to be a major turning point in the career of the actor. Basing on this performance, he was able to win the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role. In fact, the movie, Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001), saved his career from sinking. The booming success of ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001) led Saif to appear in quite a few hit films; ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ (2003), ‘Ek Haseena Thi’ (2004), ‘Hum Tum’ (2005), ‘Parineeta’ (2005), ‘Omkara’ (2006), ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Cocktail’ (2012) etc. Currently, he is anxiously waiting for the release of his films ‘Chef’ and ‘Bazaar’.

TRIVIA: The actor is prevalently perceived as the ‘Chote Nawab of Pataudi’. On the other hand, the Government of India has obliterated the official presence of princely titles.
