Bollywood Films Which Made it to the US Box Office Top 10!

The population of Indo-Americans is increasing by leaps and bounds in the United States. Reportedly, they represent one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the country. A census data shows a 69.4% increase in their numbers in the United States between 2000 and 2010. This growth is not limited to just the US. The similar growth has been recorded in Canada also. With growing Indo-American population, Indian filmmakers are releasing their films in the country in large numbers. Some of these films, at times, find great audience there and challenge even Hollywood biggies at the box office. Here we bring for you a listicle on some Bollywood Films which made in to the US Box Office Top 10.

The first and the foremost film in the list is ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’, a film which redefined entertainment and made India proud all over the world. The movie, which was a sequel to the 2015 epic blockbuster film ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, set new standard in terms of storytelling, canvas and, not to forget, sleek VFX which has never been seen before in any Indian film. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty in lead roles, the movie released worldwide on 28th April 2017 and broke several records within days of its release. It did not perform outstandingly well only in India, but in many other parts of the world also, including the United States.

On 3rd day of its release, the S.S. Rajamouli directed film posed a serious threat to some Hollywood biggies and emerged as number 3 on the US box office. The film was behind ‘Fast & Furious 8’, the eighth installment of one of the most successful film franchises of Hollywood, ‘Fast & Furious’, and a Hispanic-focused comedy. International media applauded the film and wrote positively about it, with some even terming the phenomenal performance of the film in the overseas market a “culturally diverse box office weekend”.

The biggest achievement of the film was that it competed with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars like Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. Their thriller ‘The Circle’, which failed to garner positive response for itself, opened with $9.3 million while ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion pulled in $10.1 million despite a lower screen count of just 420 screens. ‘The Fate of the Furious’, which was allotted 4,000 screens could rake in just approximate $19 million. ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ continued its steady performance in the coming days also. In just its first seven days of release, the film minted more than $13 million, which was as epic as the film itself. It is interesting to note that the prequel, which released in 2015, had earned just $9.3 million in the US in its lifetime.

TRIVIA: ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ is the first ever Indian film to earn 1000Cr INR in worldwide box office. It achieved this milestone on 10th day of its release.

  1. Sashi’s comments are to the point . Since it’s only a comment it’s cryptic and one could add or critique it in the manner one chooses.
However, the few good actors in Bollywood are just too few..but it is the lack of good stuff that needs little acting which is the reason.
By comparison only the South , Bengal or maybe Marathi movies have some worthy content in a proportion to the numbers that is churned out !
In a way it’s the Bollywood that is seriously responsible for the poor value system prevalent among the cowbelt populace. In short the differentiated culture between the South and the Cow belt is reflected in the quality of the movies too .

  2. Bollywood Analysis and comments on this page is dedicated to providing the best way forward views on there working.

Bollywood era is divided into rises of stars
Specialy rajkapoor Dev sahab dileep bhai

Then Big B the millennium Star & 1st khan’s , vinod mehara rishi sashi vinod khanna jitendra dharmendra
    Mithun raj babbar etc
Sunny akshay ritik aJay ranveer & 2nd khan’s

The same happened in singer’s era kishor Da lata ji to arjit shreya ghosal

But I do agree level of movies is not up to the standard is not rated 5 however movie earnings 100 Cr marks.

Low level of script poor acting by current generation actors is major issue with the audience.

I even stop watching movies since long going only selective movie’s

No doubt Hollywood is biggest influence of movie industry ????

  3. It’s what public wants is produced and fed well. Collection proves it whereas you,re aiming for new dimensions in productivity with fake props.

  4. Sashi ji,
Now let me analyze South made films. Loud, apalling acting, gaudy sets, horrible colors, mostly fat heroes and heroines…don’t compare with BOLLYWOOD bro! South superstars heroes are unacceptable in Bollywood and most of them who tried are flops!

    • It goes both ways. Bollywood heroes are flop in South. It actually shows Indian society is sexist misogynist chauvinist patriarchal, all India.

    • Before commenting, please get some knowledge on south indian movie scenario. Get to know the legendary directors, actors, music directors, singers, and the main stream related to cinema. Then comment please

    • Goes to show u r a tamilian chutzpah and that’s exactly why the obsession for Kamal and Prabhu. That doesn’t mean u ignore other achievers from the South.

    • What do you mean by ‘fat’ heros & heroines in South? What about Kapoor family, Amjad Khan, even Sanjeev kumar, dilip kumar ?

    • Fat heroes haha …
Show me some of your heroes with age above 65 years who is handsome and versatile like mr.mammooty and who is flexible like kamal hassan , box-office power like rajini sir ,who can act like mohanlal #
      Plz step back

    • Atleast south have some content based films Bollywood sucks only love story cancer.
BTW I’m not a big fan of south film industry.

  5. I think with gst and demonetisation the positive effects will be seen in a few years except for black marketeers corrupt businesses and tax non payers

  6. turn on channels like – max . star gold, etc movie channels and tv is flodded with dubbed south indian movies – all nonsence – Hero – gives one fight and villan is thrown away like stone particle and actress clapping hands — and singing songs with him . Hero gives slap to any one while travelling in trains on small incidences.
    and people clap hands ,

  7. It goes both ways. Bollywood heroes are flop in South. It actually shows Indian society is sexist misogynist chauvinist patriarchal, all India.
