The population of Indo-Americans is increasing by leaps and bounds in the United States. Reportedly, they represent one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the country. A census data shows a 69.4% increase in their numbers in the United States between 2000 and 2010. This growth is not limited to just the US. The similar growth has been recorded in Canada also. With growing Indo-American population, Indian filmmakers are releasing their films in the country in large numbers. Some of these films, at times, find great audience there and challenge even Hollywood biggies at the box office. Here we bring for you a listicle on some Bollywood Films which made in to the US Box Office Top 10.

Directed by well-known filmmaker, Ayan Mukerji, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013) is one of the biggest hits of actor Ranbir Kapoor’s career thus far. The film, which hit screens worldwide on 31st May 2013, went on to topple many box office records within days of its release. Also starring Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin in important roles, the film opened its account in India with a humongous 198.1 million (US$3.1 million), becoming the fourth biggest opening of all time and highest for a non-holiday release. Not just in India, the film performed phenomenally well in the overseas markets also, especially the Unites States.

According to reports published in some popular media outlets, the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starring movie reached top 10 box office grosser of the weekend list at the 8th position with $1.6 million. Whereas some other reports pegged the collection to be at $1,568,677 at the US box office, opening in at No. 9 position with an average of $9,743 from 161 theatres. ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ released in the US market alongside some highly publicized Hollywood biggies. The film had to compete with movies like ‘Fast and Furious 6’, ‘Hangover Part 3’, ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘The Iron Man 3’ to name a few. But with its great appeal and the huge fan following of Ranbir and Deepika in the US market, the film gave a tough competition to all the big Hollywood biggies and emerged victorious. Interestingly, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’s US box office record was broken the very same year by another film of its female lead, Deepika Padukone, ‘Chennai Express’ which had Deepika paired opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The film had released three months later after the release of ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’.

TRIVIA: ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ was a comeback movie for Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone since they used to date before and hadn’t done a movie together after their breakup.

  1. Dude
What’s South India or North India all one
Indirectly you are putting racism comments
Here they made return flight tickets to heroines before start of the shooting what’s that mean….they are perfectionist in all ways, exact timings, they do movies on time. Show me the same in Bollywood

  2. Almost i read each comment from the respective person viewpoint i found that we are lacking the basic idea about what movie and cinema is. Today in the world of competive market we the people have been seeing the movies and not actual cinema which is highly made for commercial gain and not for any informative purpose. If from my point of view i consider the cinema as the medium of language which can communicate you the causes and effects society is facing and shed them with proper solution to get rid of all irregularities. Few of the cinema (not movies) i watched like Bicycle Theives, Rosomon, Satyajit Ray’s films Pather panchali, anurag kashyap’s black friday, That girl in yellow boots have the ability to create a sense of knowledge through their approach by realism and trust me if anyone will go through those cinemas then we get to learn the bolloywood industry and even the vernacular industries like south etc are just showing us what is meant for nothing worthy. A boy fights for the girl with hundreds of people solely. Some songs Tu Haan Kar Ya Na Kar Tu Hai Meri Kiran, means what the hell the song meant ,whether u accept or reject you are mine Kiran at any cost such must are just a crap and cannot be considered as films.

    • Sir it’s not like everyone wants the same language you want to see. Yes Cinema is a way of reflecting society and it’s language , but you must not forget that afterall Cinema is for entertainment and for mass it’s just an 3 hrs of entertainment. Who will invest his money in a nonprofit business so commercial is not a bad thing we do have a choice to watch it or not . Ofcourse there are movies which depicts our society and they are also produced in due course along with the rest but u know it is liked by very few audience

2ndly : The song ” Tu Haan kar ya na kar … ” From movie Darr started by Sarukh khan . It was a sense bro as the movie was based on a lunatic lover who was mad in onesided love of a girl and wanted her forcibly. That’s what the song also speaks about him.

  3. Hello Kumar Subham not all the films in the south were not crap and might if you saw director “Krish Jagarlamudi” movies you’ll know what a movie is how much influence to society and south movies some were deeply connected to society and also to get rid of insecurities like you’ve said and one thing Bahubali is not Bollywood movie it’s Native is from South Tollywood movie purely Telugu movie.

    • you first read the title and thus say who started the differences. “Bollywood FILMS WHICH…….” WHY NOT INDIAN FIMS WHICH MADE……..???

  4. bahubali movie is a big movies of tollywood
but this is not look like mughleazam movie
mughleazam movie is the beauty of Bollywood
he has ruled to many heart
