If you want to see one of the finest performances of superstar Ajay Devgn, don’t miss ‘The Legend Of Bhagat Singh’, a film which has been getting more popular over the time. The talented actor, who is known for his intense and passionate acting, did a fabulous job in the award winning film, directed by well-known filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’, which arrived in cinemas on 7th June 2002, was a historical biographical film. The movie sheds light on the inspirational life of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, who gave his life for the independence of India, which was under colonial rule. Besides Ajay Devgn in the lead role of Bhagat Singh, the movie also featured Sushant Singh and D. Santosh in pivotal roles.

The release of ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ coincided with another movie which was also based on the life of late freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Directed by Guddu Dhanoa, the movie was titled ’23rd March 1931: Shaheed’, starring Bobby Deol in the titular role. The film was produced by none other than Dharmendra. Unfortunately, both the film performed poorly at the box office, but Ajay Devgn’s ‘The Legend Of Bhagat Singh’ received more critical acclaim and found a lot of the audience after its premiere on television. Since then, the film has become quite popular and is considered one of the best films of Ajay Devgn’s career. It was considered for the Best Background Score nomination in the 50th National Film Awards, which falls under the Best Music Direction category. The movie finally went on to win two National Film Awards, including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and the National Film Award for Best Actor for Ajay Devgn, and three Filmfare Awards, including the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie.

TRIVIA: Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi wanted to rope in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play Mannewali, but she was already working on 23rd March 1931: Shaheed (2002) which was also about Bhagat Singh.

  1. I agree it’s a patriotic movie… Bt losing against Pakistan in finals n playing any match against Pakistan in women’s world cup is not acceptable… As far as more than 70% of Indians consider that winning against Pakistan in equal to winning world cup, and also winning world cup after losing to Pakistan is not accepted… So, I think he is TRAITOR

  2. Seriously…..something wrong with the author…not even one movie of Manoj kumar (kranti,Shaheed) to name a few…..get ur facts right ….

  3. Top 10?????

WTF? What are the criteria used to rank them? List all movies with a Khan and having at least one utterance of the word India. And if you fall short of 10, then do a find on IMDb with genre = patriotism?

You are a laugh riot. Your knowledge of Hindi films runs only from the period that you were 15 years old. Yeah alright I saw Haqeeqat from 1964 in the list. Thank heavens for IMDb.

At the minimum you should have spoken with a few elders in your neighborhood to find out what movies they still recollect as bastions of patriotism. And your Chak De and Rang De would have come in the last 10 patriotic films.

    Grow up buddy.

  4. No Manoj “Bharat” Kumar movie in the list? I think Purab aur Paschim, Kranti, Saheed and Upkar were patriotic blockbuster too
