8MAA TUJHHE SALAAM (2002)
Macho man Sunny Deol has appeared in a number of movies imbued with the feeling of patriotism and, luckily, all his films based on the said theme have received an overwhelming response from the audience and become hits at the ticket window. Besides ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ (2001) and ‘Indian’ (2001), another popular patriotic film starring Sunny Deol in an important role is ‘Maa Tujhhe Salaam’ which released on 25th January 2002 and emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year. The movie, directed by Tinu Verma, also starred talented actors like Tabu and Arbaaz Khan. This film was released when tension between India and Pakistan was at its peak.
‘Maa Tujhhe Salaam’ is a well-told tale about how the love of country holds up in the face of other passions. The story of the film revolved around an Indian military officer, Major Pratap Singh, a character played passionately by Sunny Deol, who aborts a terrorist attack attempt of the enemy country single-handedly with the help of a few local civilians, at an area located near the border of India. With a lot of high-octane action sequences and emotions, the film takes the audience on a very entertaining, enjoyable and engrossing journey. One interesting fact about the film is that it was promoted as Sunny Deol’s movie as he had delivered back to back hits like ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Indian’ but when the film entered theaters Sunny Deol just had a supporting role where as Arbaaz Khan was the lead. Since its release, ‘Maa Tujhhe Salaam’ has seen many television repeats and is a hit among the television audience across the country.
