9Parveen Babi

Parveen began her career as a model in 1972 post which she was roped in for many films like Charitra, Majboor, Suhaag, Namak Halaal, Jaani Dost, and Yeh Nazdeekiyan. She was glamorous, elegant, and always looked like a million bucks no matter what she wore.

Parveen was undoubtedly one of the most triumphant Hindi film actresses parallel to her contemporaries like Hema Malini, Rekha, and Zeenat Aman. Parveen bowled everyone over when she appeared on the cover of TIME since no other Bollywood diva had ever been featured on the front page of a magazine before. She evaded all conventional stereotypes and was way ahead of her time.

While her career had reached its zenith, her personal life was in complete disarray. Parveen’s sudden disappearance from the industry left people feeling baffled. Rumours were rife about her courtship with fellow actors Kabir Bedi and Danny Dengzongpa, and also director Mahesh Bhatt.

Parveen Babi and Mahesh Bhatt shared a very close relationship. In 1979, Mahesh Bhatt found her in one corner of the house equipped with a kitchen knife, screaming, “They’re trying to kill me”. That was the first sign of Parveen’s illness.

Soon after that, she took off to the United States, and returned only in 1989, looking rather different. She was later diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia which was rumoured to have stemmed out of loneliness. She shocked the world with her sudden demise in 2005.

  1. i think, amisha patel neha duphia, and tabbu still having time to marry so it is early to consider them as devas never married .

  2. I can’t understand why the title says Indian divas. More appropriate would be Bollywood actresses/divas. And what do you mean by she (Neha Dhupia) ‘first seen’ in Euphoria video & ‘then appeared’ in movie Minnaram ? She made her debut in Minnaram as a child artist way before she faced cameras for Euphoria project.

  3. The word “never married” is correct because men (to whom they dated) only played with them or have passed their time. Now at this age, these “Indian divas” have lost / ruined the best part of their life, nobody will be willing to marry except passing time with them. Everyone knows that showbiz is full of glamours and most actresses give lot of sacrifices only to become famous and gain money. Doing marriage is not particularly included in their aims and objectives.

Please do not be so gender biased. There are women also, who play with men and forget about the time elapsed of their lives. Time does not stop for anyone. That is how we all age – eventful or eventless. magar apane apane mukaam par, kabhi ham nahin kabhi tum nahin.

  4. The very crux of your writing whilst sounding agreeable at first, did not work well with me after some time. Somewhere within the paragraphs you managed to make me a believer but just for a short while. I still have a problem with your leaps in assumptions and one would do nicely to help fill in those gaps. If you can accomplish that, I could definitely end up being fascinated.

  5. These actress don’t need such things because when you get free of cost entertainment then why you will spend on Dame things.
Moreover when commen person get married for partners to share good time for longer periods but contrast to these acter n actress they want partners change shorts period so no need marriage.
