10 Movies You Won’t Believe Hrithik Roshan Rejected!

The comedy-drama film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ became a rage among youth upon its release in the year 2001. Featuring an impressive lineup of actors including Aamir Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Kulkarni, Akshaye Khanna and Dimple Kapadia in prominent roles, the film was written and directed by debutant Farhan Akhtar. Revolving around the theme of love and relationships in modern times, the movie turned out to be a massive hit upon its release and has achieved a cult status over the years. ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ unfailingly finds its place in every youngster’s list of most favorite movies.

Today, it is almost difficult to imagine any change in the original star cast of the movie, because all characters have sunk in so well in our minds and hearts that visualizing any other actor essaying any of the roles from the film seems blasphemous. But you will be surprised to know that Farhan had first approached Hrithik Roshan to essay the role of Sid in the movie, but he turned it down. After his rejection, the makers tried their best to rope in Abhishek Bachchan for the same role, but he too rejected the offer. And, finally, Akshaye Khanna was taken onboard for the role of Siddharth Sinha. Akshaye played his role to perfection and took home the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor trophy.

The film proved to be a straw for the sinking career of Saif Ali Khan also. The actor was unanimously praised for his impeccable performance in the movie and won the Filmfare Award for the Best Performance in a Comic Role.

Upon its release in 2001, the movie received worldwide praise for its realistic characterization of urban Indian youth and swept major awards, including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and Best Male Playback Singer for Udit Narayan. We really feel bad for Hrithik Roshan that he could not be a part of this revolutionary film.

TRIVIA: ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was Aamir Khan’s second blockbuster in a row after his critically and commercially successful film ‘Lagaan’ in 2001.
